Man arrested in machete shampoo robbery

SCHENECTADY – A city man used a machete to rob a local Dollar General store, taking a $5 bottle of shampoo, authorities said.

Matthew Farquharson, 18, now faces one count of first-degree robbery, a felony. Police arrested him Friday.

Farquharson is accused of displaying the machete to employees at the State Street store on Jan. 20, as he tried to leave with the shampoo, according to court documents.

He also faces petty larceny and menacing counts. He was being held at the Schenectady County Jail Wednesday.
