SCHENECTADY — A man with ties to Schenectady has been arrested and a city home raided in a drug investigation, records show.
Darren C. Robinson, 52, of both Schenectady and Teaneck, N.J., was arrested Wednesday night on drug charges after a planned Thruway stop in Ulster County, according to papers filed in federal court.
Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation then raided a residence frequented by Robinson at 830 Hampton Ave., Thursday morning, finding drugs and paraphernalia, papers indicate.
The initial stop came as Robinson headed alone south on the Thruway, according to papers. Agents searched his car and found a bag containing 80 grams of cocaine hidden under the hood. Investigators also found a scale, according to the federal complaint.
Investigators then turned to the Hampton Avenue address Thursday morning. Inside, they found 75 grams of suspected heroin, along with 25 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 300 grams of powder cocaine, according to papers.
They also found Pyrex and glass mixing cups, four scales and cutting agents, according to papers.
Robinson faces a federal count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. He was arraigned and ordered held. A detention hearing is set for Friday.
Robinson was previously convicted in Albany County in 2013 of felony drug possession and in the Bronx in 1998 and 2000 of felony drug sales, according to the complaint.
Schenectady police Thursday morning announced several raids as part of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, with assistance of Schenectady police and state police related to an ongoing drug investigation.
The city police announcement didn’t specify the locations or outcomes of the raids.
