Fields for the Section II softball tournaments were released Wednesday. Here are breakdowns of the Class B, Class C and Class D brackets.

CLASS B BREAKDOWN

Cohoes, ranked No. 7 in the state poll, picked up the No. 1 seed.

Best of the rest

No. 2 Ichabod Crane, No. 3 Schalmont and No. 4 Schuylerville each have put together quality seasons. The top-three seeds in this tournament are Colonial Council squads, while Schuylerville is a Foothills Council competitor.

A year ago

Hoosic Valley and Ichabod Crane met in the final, with Ichabod Crane taking a 2-1 decision in 13 innings. 

Don’t be surprised if … 

Calista Phippen leads Ichabod Crane to a third consecutive sectional crown. The star junior pitcher has led Ichabod Crane to back-to-back championships and helped the program to a state title in 2015. A year ago, Ichabod Crane only allowed two runs in four Section II postseason games.

Keep your eyes on …

In the semifinals, Cohoes vs. Schuylerville could be a matchup that produces an upset.

CLASS C BREAKDOWN

View from the top

Greenwich cruised through the regular season, posting a 15-1 record in the Wasaren League. The Witches are 18-2 overall.

Best of the rest

Starting with 17 teams, this is a deep field. Hard to count out anyone all the way down to No. 7 Hoosic Valley, but No. 2 Chatham and No. 3 Mechanicville stick out as top challengers to Greenwich.

A year ago

Greenville won a 9-8 championship matchup with Maple Hill. Greenville scored at least eight runs in each of its 2016 sectional games.

This tournament’s whole first round concludes without an upset.

Keep your eyes on …

A potential matchup between No. 8 Duanesburg and Greenwich in the quarterfinals. Duanesburg won its 20th consecutive league championship during the regular season.

Ranked third in the state poll, Salem is the top seed. Last year, lost in the semifinals of the sectional tournament.

Best of the rest

No. 2 Germantown and No. 3 Fort Ann are the tournament’s other contenders. Fort Ann is seventh in the state poll and Germantown is 11th.

A year ago

Fort Ann scored a 2-0 championship win against Hartford. The shutout captured Fort Ann its sixth consecutive area crown.

Don’t be surprised if … 

The only by-seed upsets this tournament produces involves Fort Ann winning semifinal and championship games.

Keep your eyes on …

Like the Class AA tournament, this field has a good shot at producing an eventual state champion. Any of the top-three teams in this tournament could make a run in the state tournament.
