SCHENECTADY — A 15-year-old boy is under arrest after fleeing from police in a stolen minivan Monday, police said.
The incident ended when the teen abandoned the still-moving vehicle and fled on foot, only to be taken into custody a short time later.
The incident began about 11:45 a.m. when officers spotted a stolen vehicle and began to follow it, police said.
The driver ignored stop signs as he drove, and officers soon found the car abandoned and still rolling on Pleasant Street, police said. A police spokesman later said the incident remained low speed and did not turn into a full vehicle chase.
An officer jumped into the abandoned car and stopped it before it could hit anything.
Officers also found the teen nearby and arrested him. He was expected to be charged in Family Court. His name wasn’t released due to his age.
Detectives from the police Youth Aid Bureau are investigating.
