Grace Purvis pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Naudia Smith delivered a two-run home run as sixth-seeded Scotia-Glenville upset third-seeded Lansingburgh 4-0 Monday in a Section II Class A quarterfinal game.
Lauren Zeglen hit an RBI triple for the Tartans (10-5), and Kelly Mayette hit an RBI single. Smith’s homer capped the scoring in the seventh.
Myaisha Kelly’s run-scoring single in the ninth inning lifted Colonie past Guilderland 4-3 in a Class AA quarterfinal.
Maria Tedisco pitched four hitless innings in relief to get the win, while Lexi Szesnat and Emma Johnson both had RBI doubles for second-seeded Colonie, and Madison Judge and Bella Kieran both had two hits. Taylor Carmen hit a two-run single for seventh-seeded Guilderland.
Alissa Folts went 2-for-4 and hit a run-scoring single in the ninth gave Shaker a 3-2 Class AA win over Columbia. Lexi Ratigan tripled and scored the winning run for fifth-seeded Shaker, Meg Kutey had a triple, winning pitcher Allie Lajeunesse hit an RBI double, and Kelsey Wells added two hits.
Calista Phippen spun a one-hitter and struck out 20 in Ichabod Crane’s 14-0 Class B win over Hoosick Falls. Phippen helped at the plate with two hits and an RBI. The second-seeded Riders scored seven runs in the first inning.
Caitlin Kelleher’s RBI single in the 10th inning sent Schuylerville past Taconic Hills 4-3 in another Class B quarterfinal.
Schuylerville pitcher Teagan Andrews fanned 12 in a four-hitter, and Lauren Kelleher had a pair of doubles.
Hoosic Valley eliminated Class C No. 2 Chatham 8-4 in eight innings.
Ashley Madigan hit a three-run double in the Indians’ eighth and also had two singles in support of Camille Coyne, who gave up three hits and struck out 13.
Alexis Perry had a double, single and three RBIs for seventh-seeded Hoosic Valley (15-6). Chatham closed out at 15-1.
Several Section II quarterfinals were postponed by rain Monday and will be played today, including the Class AA matchups between Shenendehowa and Saratoga Springs, and Ballston Spa and Troy. Among the other teams in action will be Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Schalmont, Mechanicville, Duanesburg and Fort Plain.
