SARATOGA — State police on Sunday afternoon recovered a body from Saratoga Lake, authorities said.

Troopers found the body after they received a call at around 2:30 p.m. from an address on Route 9P in the town of Saratoga according to a state police official.

“The homeowner/dock owner discovered items that did not belong to him on the dock,” said Trooper Mark J. Cepiel, a department spokesman.

Soon after the call was made, a trooper found a man submerged in water near the dock, Cepiel said. More troopers responded, and the man’s body was recovered.

A coroner who responded to the scene pronounced the man deceased, Ciepel said.

Ciepel did not identify the victim, saying next of kin had not been notified. Cepiel described him as “more than likely” homeless or transient.

Among the items found that tipped off the homeowner were a bike, a duffle bag and other personal belongings, a state police investigator said.

“Circumstances do not appear to be suspicious,” he said. “It’s not a closed investigation, so it’s still something we’re looking into.”
