Shippee wins hammer at New Balance meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Shenendehowa senior Jillian Shippee won the hammer throw with a dominant performance Sunday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University.

Shippee went 192-10 to add a second national outdoor hammer title to her collection, which also includes an indoor national title in the weight throw. Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic in New Jersey — the Championship Division discus champ — was second Sunday with a 180-0, and the next three went 177-6, 174-2 and 170-3.

Shippee, who is headed to the University of North Carolina, broke her own state hammer record earlier this month with a 201-4 at a meet in Rhode Island.

Shenendehowa’s Charlotte Hartman, Olivia Lomascolo, Hannah Reale and Julia Zachgo joined for a second-place 20:29.75 in the 4xmile relay, and Niskayuna took eighth.
