Perhaps another way to reinforce the campaign taught in schools (It Starts With Me) is to discuss the proper way to dispose of the wrappings on the free lunches distributed this summer.
I observed a family walking away from the central library last year dropping the empty sandwich and chip bags as they finished them. There was an adult with them, so apparently it does need to start with the children.
I routinely pick up litter on the way into the library and on the way out. It takes so little effort and there are bins for disposal readily available.
With the lovely new landscaping around our main library, it seems the least we can do to leave it as you found it.
