Meteorologist Steve DiRienzo with the National Weather Service in Albany said the region is experiencing an above-average amount of rainfall this year.

Measurements taken at Albany International Airport show a total of 23.73 inches of rain have fallen through June, 5 inches above the yearly average and 10 inches above last year’s rainfall amount through the same time period.

“It’s been wet,” DiRienzo said. “I’d say the spring and the early part of the summer has been wetter than normal.”

June was also particularly wet, with 4.82 inches of rain recorded at Albany airport — over an inch more than the 3.79 inch average.
