SCHENECTADY — For its next trick, Rivers Casino & Resort will try to make the grand opening of its hotel a magical affair.

Illusionist Steve Wyrick will attempt to make a full-size helicopter appear on stage inside the event center at Rivers Casino & Resort during a VIP event on July 25. The feat will mark the ceremonial grand opening of The Landing Hotel, which opens to guests Wednesday.

“My new multimedia show merges the art of illusion with the most advanced video technology available,” Wyrick said in a prepared statement. “I promise an unforgettable and totally original and captivating performance that Schenectady won’t forget!”

In addition to the helicopter stunt, Wyrick will perform sleight-of-hand tricks and other smaller-scale magic. He will perform in the 10,000-square-foot event center.

Wyrick, 47, is a Texas native who has headlined thousands of performances in Las Vegas. He has also appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and performed globally for kings, queens and the Sultan of Brunei.

The Landing Hotel began taking reservations last week, and guests can begin staying at the property Wednesday. Schenectady’s latest lodging option features 165 rooms, a lobby and bar area, a fitness room and access to an outdoor patio overlooking the Mohawk River.
