
Saratoga Springs overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Niskayuna 5-4 in Suburban Council boys’ soccer action Thursday. Evan Farr tallied his third assist when he dished the ball to Aidan Rice, who netted the eventual game-winner 45 seconds into overtime.
Schenectady and Mohonasen played to a scoreless draw. Patriot keeper Mike Avramidis made eight saves, while Sam Surls of Mohonasen stopped three shots. “Both goalies made some huge saves,” Schenectady head coach Bill Bogue said.
Led by a four-goal performance by Brady Van Epps, CBA topped Albany 5-1.
Rafael Enrique-Holguin also scored for CBA and collected two assists.
Bethelehem defeated Guilderland 1-0. With just under 18 minutes left in the game, Nate Weinstock assisted on Derin Gumustop’s game-winning goal.
Shenendehowa beat Shaker 1-0. Erik Makhatadze’s free kick from 20 yards out won the game in overtime for the Plainsmen.
Alex Diana’s goal was all Schalmont needed in its 1-0 Colonial Council win over Voorheesville. Matt Horwedel assisted on the goal.
Albany Academy beat Watervliet 8-1 behind two goals and two assists from Niko Moutopoulos. Caleb Phelan chipped in a goal and two assists.
In the Wasaren League, Mechanicville defeated Tamarac 6-0. Zach Rappacioulo scored twice, while Jeff Luce added a goal and an assist.
Led by four goals from Hunter Guertin, Waterford-Halfmoon topped Hoosic Valley 7-1. Joey Espey-Vanier and Jared Powell each chipped in a goal and an assist in the win.
Henry Hansen collected a goal and an assist in Greenwich’s 4-0 defeat of Hoosick Falls. Brenden Rodd made seven saves in the shutout.
Girls’ Soccer
Averill Park beat Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 2-1 in a Suburban Council match. Kristina Sanchez and Brigid Clark scored the Warrior goals, while Blake Zardezed scored for the Spartans.
Niskayuna won its matchup with Saratoga Springs 4-1. Mikayla Bechtel and Fiona Zimmerman each recorded a goal and an assist for the Silver Warriors.
Shenendehowa beat Shaker 5-1. Amanda O’Brien scored twice for the Plainsmen, while Ava Sullivan, Michelle Clarkin, and Mia Longo each added a goal.
Sage Smith made 14 saves as Columbia shut out Colonie 1-0 in double overtime. It was Amanda Lobban who collected the game-winner with about one minute remaining in the overtime period.
Ballston Spa beat Troy 2-1. Caitlin Wania and Sarah Sierzenga scored for the Scotties, while Isabelle Churan had the Troy goal.
Emma Osterhoudt scored three goals and added two assists in leading Cobleskill-Richmondville over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 6-1 in Colonial Council play. Abigail Barney scored for the Indians.
Holy Names held on to a 2-0 halftime lead to top Catholic Central 3-2. Bella Tronco collected a goal and two assists, while Ava Panto and Megan Marini had the other goals for Holy Names.
Schalmont doubled up Voorheesville 2-1 behind goals from Vanessa Wainright and Sophia Cusano. Megan Romansky scored for the Blackbirds.
Sydnee Smith scored twice in leading Scotia-Glenville over Hudson Falls 6-1 in Foothills Council action. Tanya Leggiero tallied a goal and two assists for the Tartans.
Jess Winslow and Amya Naja each collected two goals as South Glens Falls defeated Broadalbin-Perth 8-0. Naja also had an assist.
Queensbury topped Johnstown 3-0. Maddie Montgomery scored two goals and added an assist, while Brigid Duffy scored the other Spartan goal.
Girls’ Volleyball
Mohonasen topped Schenectady 25-14, 25-13, 25-21 in Suburban Council play. For the Warriors, Bryanah Green collected 14 assists and Karlie Ullman added seven kills.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Averill Park 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14. The Spartans were led by Lindsay Debonis (16 kills), Hannah Shell (14 kills), and Sofia Pashsik (16 digs). Sydney Jones racked up 23 assists for the Warriors.
Niskayuna defeated Saratoga Springs 17-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-21. Stefana Stan guided the Silver Warriors with 20 service points, five kills, two aces and a block.
Morgan Manning’s 25 assists guided Guilderland over Bethlehem 25-22, 15-25, 25-22, 25-17. Amber Nunizato chipped in 12 kills and seven blocks for the Lady Dutch.
Ballston Spa won its match against Troy 25-13, 25-10, 25-12. Madi Amico guided the Scotties with 16 service points, while Lauren Kersch collected 15 assists.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk defeated Cobleskill-Richmondville in Colonial Council action 27-25, 25-17, 25-22. For Ravena, Liz Dewisbury collected four aces and 20 assists, while Rylee Polverelli tallied 10 kills and five blocks.
Holy Names topped Catholic Central 25-17, 25-20, 25-21. Kelsey Neff recorded 11 kills, two aces, and four blocks for Holy Names. Sydney Neff added 11 assists.
In the Western Athletic Conference, Fonda-Fultonville beat Berne-Knox-Westerlo 25-20, 25-7, 25-15. Allison Codi led the way with 11 aces, three digs, 17 service points, and five kills for the Braves.
Schoharie overcame a 2-1 deficit in sets and won a pair of tiebreakers in the fourth and fifth sets to top Canajoharie 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, 26-24. Harley Stevens tallied 21 service points and 11 aces for the Indians. Canajoharie was led by 31 service points, 16 aces, and 24 assists from Sydney Shepard.
Mekeel Christian Academy won its season-opening match over Galway 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 13-25, 26-24. Mackenzie Islip propelled the Lions with 30 assists, five kills, 15 service points, one ace, and eight digs.
Mayfield defeated Middleburgh 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-12. Sam Kent guided the Panthers with four kills, 11 service points, and 12 digs. Megan Brown had 13 service points and four aces for Middleburgh.
Field Hockey
Schuylerville beat Johnstown 2-1 in a Foothills Council match. Amanda Coleman and Morgan Gunter had the goals for the Black Horses, while Paige Stewart scored for Johnstown.
