Residents of Clifton Park and Halfmoon will vote Thursday on their library’s $4.4 million budget.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Road.

The total 2018 spending plan is $4,416,934. According to the budget, approximately $4.1 million of that will be raised from property taxes.

Also on the ballot for Halfmoon residents are three seats for library trustees. Candidates are incumbents Megan Brown and Maria McMunn. Since there are only two candidates for three open seats, the library board will appoint someone to fill the third seat for one year. The five-year term for the two elected trustees — as well as the one-year term for the appointed representative — begins Jan. 1.

Since the only trustee openings are for Halfmoon representatives, only Halfmoon residents will be able to vote on the trustees. The ballot for Clifton Park residents will not have the option to vote for trustees.

The library Board of Trustees is made up of 11 elected representatives: seven from Clifton Park and four from Halfmoon.

If a trustee leaves before his or her term is finished, another person is elected or appointed to serve the remainder of the term.

Registered voters, including both renters and property owners in the towns of Clifton Park and Halfmoon who live within the Library District, are eligible to vote Thursday with proof of identity. Residents must have lived in the district for 30 days prior to the vote in order to participate.

The Library District consists of all of Clifton Park and the areas of Halfmoon that are not served by the Mechanicville or Waterford-Halfmoon school districts. The Mechanicville and Waterford public libraries are school district public libraries, meaning their district boundaries are identical to their respective school districts’ boundaries.

The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library is a special district library. Such library districts are established by the state Legislature to serve specific groups of residents.
