BOSTON — A banner reading “RACISM IS AS AMERICAN AS BASEBALL” was unfurled over the Green Monster in the middle of the fourth inning at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.
Those responsible for the banner were escorted from the park for violating the club’s policy prohibiting the affixing of signs in the ballpark. The quartet were not banned from the park, and one fan mentioned being inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Red Sox had retired the side in order in the top of the fourth when the banner was let go along the Monster. It remained there for most of the two-minute break before the bottom of the fourth started, with the four fans holding it rolling it up shortly before security arrived.
This is the second time fans have dropped a banner with a political message over the Green Monster. Back in July, fans unfurled one condemning what it called the “Israel occupation.”
Security quickly confiscated the banner and removed those holding it. pic.twitter.com/b8xjLBW8O5
