The body of a missing hiker was found Monday near Wallface Mountain in Essex County, according to state police and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Alex Stevens of Hopewell, New Jersey, was last seen Sept. 2 near the mountain.

Stevens’ body was found about noon near Wallface Mountain, which is within the High Peaks Wilderness. An autopsy will be completed Tuesday at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

The search for Stevens had been ongoing since Sept. 10. A family member had reported Stevens was overdue from a hike, according to the DEC at the time.

An entry in a trailhead register, dated Sept. 2, indicated Stevens planned a three-day hike, according to DEC.
