I am writing to support Col. Brian Backus, USAF, as a candidate for the Niskayuna Board of Education. I have the privilege of serving with Brian on the Niskayuna Planning Board and Zoning Commission.

Col. Backus is the commander of the 139th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and has served in the military since 1978. He has multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, with the direct responsibility of providing care for Wounded Warriors. Prior to assuming his full-time duties with the Air National Guard, Brian was employed by the Capital Region BOCES for 18 years and served in a variety of positions. Brian is also a parent with children in the Niskayuna schools.

Brian’s entire career has been spent in public service and I applaud his desire to expand his service to the pupils, teachers and administrators of the Niskayuna school district. Brian’s long and varied career in the military and BOCES makes him uniquely qualified. His career, temperament and demonstrated leadership qualifications should serve as a model to our students.

Niskayuna is fortunate to have Brian as a candidate. I ask that residents of Niskayuna support Col. Brian Backus for the Board of Education.
