Repeat burglar charged again in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM — A Schenectady man twice before sent to prison for burglary has been accused of burglary again, this time in Rotterdam, authorities said.

William A. Lowell, 55, of 4 Close St., is accused of breaking into the Uptown Beverage Center through an unsecured window Sept. 8 and taking several cartons of cigarettes.

Lowell faces one count of third-degree burglary, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor. Police arrested him Thursday.

He was arraigned and ordered held.

Lowell was sent to prison in both 2006 and 2012 related to burglary cases.

In 2006, he ripped off a roof vent and broke into Castello’s Restaurant in Schenectady, taking a bottle of bourbon and some Canadian Club whiskey, according to newspaper records. A K-9 tracked him to his home. He received 2 to 4 years in state prison in that case.

In 2012, Lowell was accused with three others of breaking into a Close Street home. Lowell was also accused of possessing a forged check. He received 6 years, 6 months in prison in that case and was released in May. He was to remain under post-release supervision until 2022.
