Voter registration deadline is Friday

ALBANY — Friday is the statewide deadline for people to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election.

Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by midnight Friday and must be received by residents’ local county Board of Elections no later than Wednesday. Friday, however, is the deadline for anyone who wishes to register in-person with their board of elections.

The voter registration form can be downloaded at www.elections.ny.gov, where people unsure if they are registered may also check their status. People may also register through the state Department of Motor Vehicles if they have a MyDMV account.

Registration forms are also generally available at state and federal government offices, post office locations and public libraries.

People who are registered to vote in New York but who have moved between counties need to re-register in their new counties, and those who have moved within a county must notify their county board of elections of their new address.

To be eligible to register, people must be U.S. citizens and must be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
