Seeds for the Section II Class AA football tournament were released Sunday. Here’s our breakdown of the field.

View from the top

Each undefeated, Troy won the Liberty Division and Saratoga Springs topped the Empire Division. Those are the No. 1 seeds, while Troy — the reigning state champion — is ranked No. 1 in the state.

Best of the rest

Both No. 2 seeds — Shaker and Shenendehowa — will be tough to eliminate. Shaker’s only loss is to Troy, while Shenendehowa’s lone defeat came against Saratoga Springs.

Troy topped Ballston Spa, CBA and Shaker on its way to the sectional crown. The Flying Horses later won the state title, and are currently riding a 20-game winning streak.

Don’t be surprised if …

Guilderland finds a way to upset Shaker in the quarterfinals. After starting its season 0-3, Guilderland — the No. 3 seed from the Empire Division — won its final four games by a combined score of 175-0.

Keep your eyes on …

Troy. The Horses have been outstanding throughout the 2017 season, and have the ability to become the first Class AA team to repeat as state champion in more than a decade.
