ROTTERDAM — A Glenville man punched and tried to rob a 69-year-old man on the Western Gateway Bridge on Wednesday, police said.

Brennan L. Palmer, 19, faces one count each of second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree assault, both felonies, police said.

Police responded to the bridge about 10:15 a.m. for an assault call. The 69-year-old reported walking on the bridge when another man approached, punched him twice and demanded money, police said.

When the suspect realized the victim had no money, he ran toward Scotia, Rotterdam police said.

Scotia and Glenville police also responded to assist. Police soon found Palmer nearby and arrested him. He was arraigned in Rotterdam Town Court and ordered held.
