NISKAYUNA — The pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night on State Street and later died from his injuries has been identified as a Schenectady man.
Garry F. Cognetti, 67, was struck about 7:35 p.m. and taken to Ellis Hospital with critical injuries, police said.
The accident happened near the intersection of Mansion Square Boulevard. State Street was closed between Balltown Road and Mansion Square for about five hours as police investigated the crash, according to a police report.
Cognetti was hit by a westbound motorist, police said. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
Early indications are the pedestrian was in the roadway and not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
