AMSTERDAM — City police on Wednesday arrested a homeless man in connection with the Sunday armed robbery of Raceway Express, at 313 E. Main St.
Police were called to the convenience store at 10:05 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man with a knife, according to a police report.
Responding officers were able to identify Delton W. Jones, 43, who has been staying at various locations in the city, as the suspect, according to the police report. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
He was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment on John Street, after a tip was provided that Jones was there, police said. A perimeter was established around the property, and as officers knocked on the apartment door, Jones fled through a rear door and was immediately taken into custody, police said.
Jones was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, and was being held pending arraignment in Amsterdam City Court.
