Meet the Motzes: The mystery couple from lost Lake Placid photos

Reunited and it feels so good.

The Daily Gazette last week posted a blog featuring a Schenectady High School alumnus looking for a couple pictured in photos he had processed.

On Saturday, his search ended.

Craig and Nikki Motz, who live in Long Island City, reached out to Henry Liebers after being alerted to the blog by a college friend and a high school friend, the couple wrote Sunday in an email.

“We thought it was spam at first and then we realized it was real,” they wrote via email. “Once we looked into it a bit more we were surprised to see how many people shared the article and were trying to help look for us.”

Liebers this summer found undeveloped film at the intersection of South Meadows and Adirondack Loj roads, just outside Lake Placid. He recently had the film developed and realized that it included wedding photos.

“We took photos in a few locations along Adirondack Loj Road before our wedding ceremony,” wrote the couple, who was married July 15 at the Lake Placid Club. “South Meadows Road is one of the stops we made. Adirondack Loj is one of our favorite roads in Lake Placid.”

The couple had a welcome party at the Olympic Jumping Complex, which could be seen in the background of one of the photos.

Liebers, who now attends St. Lawrence University as a junior, shared the good news on Facebook.

“The couple has been found. They emailed me this morning and I will be sending them the photos later today,” he wrote Saturday.

The couple added: “It warmed our hearts to see there are still so many good people out there spreading positivity and love. We can’t wait to receive the missing photos from Henry and see the missing photos from our special weekend in Lake Placid”

Craig Motz, 36, is from Buffalo, while Nikki Motz, 35, is from Fishkill.
