UAlbany men's basketball to honor Cremo joining 1,000-point club

UAlbany junior Joe Cremo scored his 1,000th career point last weekend.

ALBANY — Before Saturday’s game against Columbia, the University at Albany men’s basketball program plans to honor junior Joe Cremo for scoring his 1,000th career point last weekend in a win against Holy Cross.

UAlbany enters that game with a 7-1 record, while Columbia is 1-5 — but coming off a 77-73 overtime loss against UConn.

Prior to Saturday’s 7 p.m. tipoff at SEFCU Arena, here are 10 numbers to know about Cremo’s career and latest milestone.

Just a reminder: That’s how many points Cremo scored during his high school career at Scotia-Glenville. The Scotia native helped the Tartans win back-to-back state championships.

Since scoring his 1,000th point last weekend, Cremo’s kept adding to his total. He’s averaging a career-high 16.8 points per game this season.

That’s where junior David Nichols, Cremo’s backcourt partner, stands in career scoring. He’s likely to score his 1,000th career point at some point in January.

While Cremo is shooting the 3-pointer more this season, he’s registered 500 of his career points on 2-point shots. This season, Cremo’s scored 134 points — 52 from 2-point territory, 54 from 3-point territory and 28 from the foul line.

In 76 career games, Cremo’s been shut out once as a Great Dane. That was against Boston University during his freshman season. Cremo played a career-low four minutes in that game, which is also the only college contest Cremo has not attempted at least two shots.
