ROTTERDAM — A local urgent care/primary care clinic is closing its doors for good as of Friday.

Two people who answered the phone Thursday at Newton Medical III at 2727 Hamburg St. said the closure is due to the impending retirement of the physicians who work there.

Neither person identified themselves or the physicians. Both indicated the physicians were not interested in discussing their plans.

The facility was offered for sale recently but has been withdrawn from the market. A description collected in the state Multiple Listing Service indicated it was a busy, well-maintained walk-in medical practice with a “huge” following. All equipment was to be included in the sale.

Town residents will have another local medical choice within a few months: Albany Medical Center is building an emUrgent Care clinic in the Hannaford Plaza at 1400 Altamont Ave., and targeting it for an April opening.
