High school roundup: Niskayuna seniors Tucker, Spiers finish 2nd at Dartmouth

HANOVER, New Hampshire — Niskayuna seniors Donnovan Tucker and Abigail Spiers placed second in the 2-mile championship races Saturday at the Dartmouth Relays at Dartmouth College.

Tucker clocked a 9:38.55 in the 2-mile event to finish second behind Brendan Murray of Cheshire, Conn. (9:36.15). Niskayuna senior Colin Ross placed fifth (9:42.08) in the field of 20 runners.

Juniors Marty Dolan and James Nuqui started what Ross and Tucker finished as Niskayuna went 10:47.57 for second in the distance medley relay. Bishop Hendricken, R.I., won the relay (10:45.85), and Guilderland was fifth (11:11.94).

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake placed fifth in the 4×400 relay (3:39.44), and Guilderland was fifth 4×800 relay (8:29.01).
South Glens Falls senior Frank Triolo took first in the unseeded 2-mile race (10:08.70).

Spiers held on for second in the girls’ 2-mile championship race with an 11:11.59, while Jacqueline Gaughan of Exeter, NH, prevailed (10:20.77).

Niskayuna won the 4×800 in 9:42.31 with junior Charlotte Kokernak, sophomore Madeline Beltramo, senior Sydney Smith and 12th-grader Amelia Kokernak.

Niskayuna placed third in the 1,600 sprint medley relay (4:20.30), one spot ahead of Guilderland (4:22.39), and the Silver Warriors were third in the distance medley relay (12:25.44). Niskayuna was also fifth in the 4×200 (1:51.66).

Guilderland junior Bella Bruno tied for third in the high jump (5-2), and placed third in the championship triple jump (30-7 3/4). 

Burnt Hills junior Rory Graham was fourth in the girls’ 1,000, posting a personal-best 3:00.30, and Amelia Kokernak was fifth (3:02.51).

Fonda-Fultonville senior Brittany Castelluccio was fourth in the championship long jump (16-10).

Niskayuna eighth-grader Liyat Kebbede was second in the unseeded 2-mile race (11:49.75), and Burnt Hills eighth-grader Emily Berg was fourth (11:55.06). Guilderland senior Olivia DiCarlo was third in the unseeded shot put (30-3 1/2), and Burnt Hills junior Samantha Tricozzi was fourth in the unseeded triple jump (33 1/2).

Niskayuna placed third in the girls’ team standings. The Niskayuna boys were eighth.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

In Foothills Council play, Amsterdam beat Queensbury 74-63. Jeffery VanAnden scored 25 for Queensbury. Willie Brown had 29 for Amsterdam.

Albany Academy beat Fieldston 79-64 in non-league action. Marcus Filien had 19 points for Albany Academy.

Gloversville beat Broadalbin-Perth 56-32 in Foothills Council play. Kerri Hauser had 14 for Gloversville. Adrienne Morreale and Mackenzie Smith scored eight each for Broadalbin-Perth.

In Colonial Council play, Holy Names beat Cobleskill-Richmondville 53-51. Saniyya Adams had 18 for Holy Names.

Schalmont beat Lansingburgh 44-30 in Colonial Council action. Madison Graber had 14 for Schalmont. Madison Teta scored 10 for Lansingburgh.
