CLIFTON PARK — Kitware, a local software research company, is in the process of moving its corporate headquarters from Halfmoon to Clifton Park.

Construction of the new headquarters is underway on Route 9, according to a prepared statement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“The expansion of this great New York company is great news for the Capital Region and further adds to the region’s high-tech economy,” Cuomo said.

Kitware will invest more than $10 million to lease and outfit more than 43,000 square feet of office space at the new facility.

The company said its growth strategy is the reason for the relocation. Kitware plans to add more than 40 employees over the next five years, and, to encourage the expansion, Empire State Development has offered up to $400,000 in tax credits for the project.

“Our success is fueled by our talented team members. It is their passion for developing innovative open-source software platforms that enables us to fulfill our mission to advance the frontiers of understanding,” said Kitware President, CEO and co-founder Lisa Avila, in a prepared statement about the move. “Our new headquarters will allow us to grow and, with new team members, we will explore new areas of innovation.”

Founded in 1998 in the Capital Region, Kitware is a software research, development and consulting company. The business began with five employees and has grown to more than 160 with offices in New Mexico, North Carolina and France.

Kitware focuses on portfolio services, such as data analytics, high-performance computing and visualization, medical computing, computer vision and software process development, with customers in academia, government and various other industries. The company specializes in open-source software, which utilizes licenses that allow others to freely use, modify and redistribute source code, according to the news release.

“Clifton Park is pleased to be home to the new headquarters for Kitware Inc.,” Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said in a prepared statement. “Kitware is a southern Saratoga County success story, and the company has grown exponentially from its founding in 1998.”
