High school roundup: Girard III goes off for 60 (again)

Joseph Girard III dropped 60 points and shot 18 of 19 from the free throw line in Glens Falls’ 87-78 Section II Class B state tournament quarterfinal boys’ basketball win over Schuylerville Friday.

Nicholas Budsheim scored 29 points for the Black Horses, while Stratton Sherman added 26. The Indians advance to the semifinals and will face Schalmont, which defeated Hudson 73-68 in a separate Class C quarterfinal, on Monday at Cool Insuring Arena.

Joey Atkins scored 29 points to lead Watervliet over Catskill 66-63. Justice Brantley had 24 for the Cats. Watervliet will face Mekeel Christian Academy in the semifinals Monday at Cool Insuring Arena.

In the Class C quarterfinals, Saratoga Central Catholic edged Granville 44-42. Aidan D’Agastino scored 13 points for the Saints, while Bart Batholomew led the Golden Horde with 13.
Lake George beat Stillwater 69-37 behind 15 points from Mason Flatley. The Saints and Warriors will face off in a Class C semifinal Thursday at Cool Insuring Arena.

GIRLS

Hoosick Falls topped Stillwater 50-29 in a Class C quarterfinal. Logan Thayne led the Panthers with 21 points, while Stillwater’s Marley Mueller tallied 10.

Cambridge defeated Maple Hill 58-37, and will advance to face Hoosick Falls in a Class C semifinal Tuesday at Cohoes. Sophie Phillips scored 21 points for the Indians.

In other Class C games, Mekeel Christian Academy defeated Hoosic Valley
59-27 and Greenville beat Lake George 49-41. The winners will face off in the other Class C semifinal.
