SCHENECTADY — Firefighters quickly extinguished a structure fire on Hamilton Street Tuesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Ray Senecal said the fire appeared to have started in the backyard of a residence at 627 Hamilton before spreading to the building itself. No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries, Senecal said.

Firefighters were at the scene within a minute and a half of the call alerting them to the fire, which Senecal said they received from a passerby who saw smoke coming from the building.

Senecal said fire investigators were looking for the cause of the blaze.
