Confusion over what defines an AR rifle

An AR on the battlefield is the equivalent of a knife in a gun fight.

Re March 14 letters, “Assault gun ban would protect us,” by Michael T. Horan of Schenectady and “Join the military to use an AR-15,” by Bruce Castka of Canajoharie: Bruce, thank you for your service. You must be familiar with the M16A1, not even close to an AR. An AR on the battlefield is the equivalent of a knife in a gun fight. Michael, my hunter-fisherman brother is the only gun owner I know who doesn’t own an AR. Thank you both for your comments. The Bill of Rights is a guarantee for all our freedoms.
