Colonie bank robbery suspect apprehended in Pennsylvania

COLONIE — A suspect in the robbery of an NBT bank on Friday has been apprehended, Colonie police said Saturday.

Joseph Bonesteel, 31, no address listed, was arrested in the town of New Milford, Pennsylvania, just south of the border with New York at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday The vehicle he was operating was observed by members of the Pennsylvania State Police, after a bulletin had been distributed here.

Bonesteel is accused of holding up the NBT branch at 703 Troy-Schenectady Road on Friday. He was with a woman and child at the time of his arrest by the Pennsylvania State Police. Police said quantity of cash taken during the robbery was also recovered. He is being held by Pennsylvania authorities until extradition can be worked out.

Colonie police said media accounts of the robbery and users of Facebook were vital in locating Bonesteel. In addition to the Pennsylvania State Police, the Colonie Police Department was assisted by the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, the New York State Police.
