SARATOGA SPRINGS — New York State park police and the Saratoga Springs police department will conduct an “active shooter” training exercise next week at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC).

The entire fenced-in area of SPAC will be closed to the public during the training, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, according to a prepared statement.

An increase in police presence and simulated gunshots may be heard throughout the week-long exercises near SPAC, inside Saratoga Spa State Park.

All simulated gunshots will be restricted to the backstage and amphitheater areas. The training weapons being used are incapable of firing bullets and are bright blue or have bright blue accents to readily identify them.

All traffic in the area will be alerted to the exercises at entry points to the park.

Park police routinely partner with state and local law enforcement agencies to police large-scale events and respond to emergencies.
