SCHENECTADY — Ring of Hope Boxing Club members Tom Wilkins and Tyrek Brace will compete in the New York State Golden Gloves Tournament finals Sunday at Buffalo RiverWorks.

Wilkins, a 31-year old heavyweight from Glenville, will compete in the sub-novice division. Brace, a 25-year-old junior middleweight from Schenectady, will fight in the novice division.

“Both of them are in great shape and looking really good,” Ring of Hope head trainer Vince Kittle said. “I think they both have a good chance of winning their categories. They are good fighters.”

Wilkins recorded a third-round TKO in his only previous fight. The Schalmont High School graduate received quarterfinal and semifinal byes in the Golden Gloves tournament to reach Sunday’s final.

Brace owns a 4-5 amateur record, and the Troy High School graduate won his Golden Gloves quarterfinal bout before receiving a semifinal bye.

Sunday’s tournament finals will also include bouts in the open class. Bouts consist of three, three-minute rounds.
