Spot with Giants, Jets remains possibility for Hoskins

Malachi Hoskins works out for the New York Giants later this week.

ALBANY — Not selected in this year’s NFL draft, Malachi Hoskins continues to flirt with landing a spot with one of New York’s teams.

Hoskins, who wrapped up his University at Albany football career in the fall, participated this past weekend in the Jets’ rookie minicamp. Later this week, Hoskins will do the same for the Giants as a tryout player.

In a text message, Hoskins said Monday that his tryout with the Jets went well.

“They weren’t able to sign me because they have too many outside linebackers on the depth chart as of right now,” Hoskins said. “But they told me if any changes were made, I would be the person they called.”

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound outside linebacker — he played defensive end at UAlbany — worked out for the Giants and Jets prior to the draft. He also had received pre-draft interest from the Tennessee Titans.

“You can’t get too high or too low with this process,” Hoskins said before last month’s NFL draft.

Hoskins, a Queens native, projects as a fit for a team that plays a 3-4 defensive scheme. During his college career, he recorded 21.5 sacks and finished up as an All-CAA first-team selection as a senior.

Besides Hoskins, another senior from the UAlbany football team’s 2017 roster has started his pro journey. Anthony Manzo-Lewis, who played fullback and tight end for the Great Danes, signed a multi-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent not long after the draft’s conclusion.
