SCHENECTADY – A Ballston Spa woman announced Wednesday as a $1 million scratch-off game winner cashed in one small win for a much bigger win, according to the New York State Lottery.

Kelly Busch, 59, said she was out doing laundry when she redeemed a $10 winning ticket and bought two more tickets – the lottery’s $1,000,000 Mayhem tickets because she liked the name.

Mayhem soon ensued.

“It was a real shock to me,” Busch said in a lottery release. “I didn’t want to lose it, so I came right down here to Schenectady to claim it.”

Busch purchased the ticket at the Union Foodmart, 2 South St. Ballston Spa. She chose the one-time lump-sum payment and received a check totaling $537,440 after required withholdings, the lottery said.

Busch was one of two local $1 million prize winners announced Wednesday. Gregg Collar, 45, of Albany, won his playing the New York Poker scratch-off game. He also chose the lump-sum payment and received $544,158 after required withholdings.

“I really have no idea what I’ll do with the winnings,” Collar said, according to the lottery. “I plan to stay within my means, but it will definitely make life easier.”

He purchased his ticket at Emil News, 99 Washington Ave., Albany.
