Major League Baseball is great. It’s known as the nation’s pastime. There are some concerns about baseball though. We can all agree that MLB baseball games are becoming very long, but in my opinion there are ways to fix the game.
One way is umpires need to keep batters in the box. For example, the pitcher pitches the ball and it’s outside. The batter steps out of the box and starts fixing his batter’s gloves and elbow guard. I think it’s stupid because he didn’t swing; what does he need adjust? I get that he has to look at his signs from his coach, but he doesn’t have to adjust his equipment. If umpires keep the batters in the box, the game will go a lot faster.
To make baseball better, there should be a 20-second pitch clock. This would help because pitchers take way too long to pitch the ball. They’re too busy looking at signs and taking a long time to look at the runner on the base.
The pitcher might want to peek at the base runner to make sure he’s not stealing but pitchers are looking at the runner way too long. Triple-A and Double-A had a 20-second pitch clock rule and it was successful. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work in the MLB.
Another way MLB could make baseball better is to stop pitchers warming up after coming out of the bullpen. I don’t understand why pitchers come out of the bullpen and start warming up. They were just warming up in the bullpen and now the pitchers are wasting five minutes even though they just warmed up. I think they’re doing this for commercial breaks but I think that they could find another time to have a commercial break.
OK, every year it’s the same teams in the playoffs. The Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs and the Astros. The occasional teams like the Mets, the Cardinals, Orioles, Nationals and the Rangers. These perennial playoff teams have one thing in common: They have the largest salaries.
Let’s start with the Bronx Bombers. I know a lot of people in New York like the Yankees and everyone’s extremely excited about Giancarlo Stanton.
If you look at the Yankees roster, it’s a great team no doubt. You have Stanton, Judge, Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Didi Gregorius and I think a great addition, Brandon Drury. The pitching staff is great as well. Examples are Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Sonny Gray, Aroldis Chapman, and Dellin Betances.
As good as the Yankees are, the Dodgers are as good, if not better. They were the NLCS champions but lost in seven games to the Houston Astros in the World Series. They have one of the best hitting teams in the league.
The Dodgers have great hitters. Justin Turner, Corey Seager and rookie sensation Doby Bellinger. They have a great outfield — some players like Yasiel Puig, Joc Pederson, and coming back to LA Matt Kemp.
The Cubs and the Astros have the same type of roster, and I ask myself sometimes, how do these teams get so many great players? Then I think they have the biggest salary caps. The Red Soxs are also very good. These last couple of years, it’s been the same teams winning the division. The Red Sox, Indians, Astros, Nationals, Cubs and Dodgers.
These are some ways the MLB will be a lot better.
