The Wheelmobile, the promotional vehicle for America’s No. 1 rated game show, “Wheel of Fortune,” will be at the Saratoga Casino Hotel from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be three shows held each day, with the winners earning an opportunity to audition for a spot on the actual television broadcast. There is no pre-registration, but contestants are required to fill out an application form and then have his or her name drawn at random to participate. Applications will be handed out in the hotel ballroom an hour prior to each show. The event itself will take place inside Vapor.
The Wheelmobile, a 36-foot Winnebago, has been around since 1999, and the majority of contestants on the television show have come from different Wheelmobile shows held around the country. The Wheelmobile has logged over 375,000 miles and has visited 300 cities over the past two decades.
“The Wheelmobile tour gives us the opportunity to present local viewers with a unique and personal experience with the show,” “Wheel of Fortune” executive producer Harry Friedman said in a press release. “It’s a way for us to thank our viewers for their long-term support, and for making us America’s game.”
Broadcast weeknights at 7 p.m. on WTEN-TV, “Wheel of Fortune” originally aired on NBC as a daytime series, running from Jan. 6, 1975 to June 30, 1989. In July of 1989 it moved to CBS but was cancelled two years later. A night-time, syndicated version of the show was created back in 1983, and it is that show that continues today with Pat Sajak and Vanna White, the two original hosts for the night-time version.
“Wheel of Fortune,” which ranks as the longest-running syndicated game show in the U.S., is based on the game “Hangman.”
