SCHENECTADY – A city woman broke into a home last weekend to assault a child inside, authorities said.

Danielle Herring, 27, of Carrie Street, faces one count of second-degree burglary, as well as multiple misdemeanors in the Saturday afternoon incident.

Herring is accused of breaking into another Carrie Street residence by kicking in the locked front door. Once inside, she held a 12-year-old boy down on the floor and struck him multiple times, according to court documents.

Police based the charges on statements from witnesses, as well as surveillance camera footage.

Herring faces one misdemeanor count of second-degree unlawful imprisonment and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The endangering counts relate to the boy, as well as four other children present — a 4-year-old, a 5-year-old and two other 12-year-olds, according to documents.

Herring was arraigned and released on $3,000 bail.
