Ethan Georgi, 40, is one of many bike-share service users in Albany County. Though he owns his own bike, the bike-share program offers a convenient alternative.

“For the last few months, I’ve been taking a bike-share downtown [in Albany] to pick up the bus, which I ride to Troy to get to work,” Georgi said. “In a situation like that, I don’t want to leave my bike in downtown Albany all day.”

The first season of the CDPHP Cycle! program opened on July 27, 2017, with 41 bike stations and 160 bikes. By the end of last summer, 2,467 people had registered with the program and  11,418 trips had been logged.

CDPHP saw the most rentals in September and October, when the weather was cooler and rain was minimal.

Season two launched May 8, with 34 new locations and an additional 190 bikes throughout Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, Troy and Albany.

As of June 5, a total of 266 rides had been recorded in Schenectady alone.

CDPHP and the Capital District Transportation Authority partnered to create the bike-sharing program, the first in the Capital Region.

“In the future, we will be tweaking the system to best suit the community’s needs, but the goal of 350 bicycles and 80 stations that we’ve accomplished this year was our initial vision,” said CDTA spokesman Jaime Watson.

They will continue taking recommendations for new bike rack locations throughout the year, said Watson.
