ALBANY – CDTA Schenectady division drivers took top honors at the authority’s annual bus roadeo in Albany this week, officials said.
The drivers are judged on a rigid, scored course that includes 15 different driving challenges. They’re judged by local law enforcement officials who volunteered their time to assess the contestant driving skills, knowledge and performance, officials said.
Mark Hichman and John Gonzalez, both Schenectady division drivers, took first and second place in the competition held Wednesday. Hichman has 24 years on the job, Gonzalez 13. Reyaad Waxali, an Albany operator, took third with his seven years of service.
Jarrett Quinones, a Schenectady division driver, took top honors for rookies. Steve Wacksman, superintendent of maintenance, took the superintendent award.
The top three finishers will represent CDTA at the state operator roadeo held in the fall. The state winners then go on to the international competition held in the spring.
