Motorcyclist killed in Ballston crash identified

A motorcyclist was killed on Sunday after colliding into an SUV on State Route 67

BALLSTON — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office has identified the person killed Sunday when a motorcycle and an SUV collided on State Route 67. 

James Van Ness, 54, of Ballston Spa, was killed when his motorcycle struck an SUV being driven by Delaney Brooks, 18, also of Ballston Spa. 

Sheriff’s deputies received a call about the crash, east of Curtis Lumber, just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. 

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation has revealed Van Ness was operating his motorcycle westbound on Route 67 when he crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head on with Brooks vehicle. 

Officials said there was no evidence of impairment by Brooks, and the collision remains under investigation.

Van Ness was pronounced dead at the scene, and Brooks was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
