NISKAYUNA — A man who police said stole more than $29,000 by opening credit card accounts in another person’s name has been arrested by State Troopers.

Asif Ismail, 32, is charged with first-degree identity theft and third-degree grand larceny, both felonies, according to the state police.

The charges came after a Brunswick woman said several credit card accounts had been opened in her name without her consent, troopers said. Ismail is alleged to have made charges in excess of $29,000 in those accounts.

Ismail was arraigned and was in Rensselaer County Jail pending bail, as of Monday.
