The Fort Plain Police Department issued a news release Monday afternoon saying its investigation into the homicide of Joshua L. Laveck is continuing.

The news release included a mug shot of village resident Gary L. Sweet, 38, the third man arrested in connection with the homicide. Police had been searching for Sweet on Sunday, calling him a “person of interest” in the case, but then later announced on the department’s Facebook page that he had been arrested at 10:45 p.m. Sunday night.

The first two men arrested in connection with the case were  Eric S. Rivera, 31, of Gloversville and Aaron L. Cockfield, 33, of Johnstown.

Monday afternoon’s news release described the three men as “suspects” in the case who are in police custody, but included no information about the charges against the three men.

Police officials would not answer any questions about the arrests or the case and said information about the investigation will only be given by email news release.

Police stated Laveck, 29, of 60 Division St., was found dead on his front porch by police responding to a call from his house at 10:16 a.m. Saturday.

The Fort Plain Police Department is encouraging anyone wishing to share information anonymously about the case to call the department’s detective office at 518-993-3781 or the state police tip line at 1-800-SAFENYS.
