John Pagoda’s Aug. 5 letter describing the Supreme Court as “seizing power” from the public unions is dishonest. The public sector unions are the ones who were seizing power from individuals who opt-out of unions, yet still have to pay their union dues. It’s wrong for dues to be compulsory if the union doesn’t represent my interests or viewpoint.
For example, the NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) donated $10,000 in 2016 towards Hillary Clinton for her presidential run. Why should I, or any individual, have to pay dues that may end up supporting, in my opinion, a crooked politician such as Hillary Clinton?
The Supreme Court didn’t “seize power.” It restored freedom for Americans to decide what comes out of their paycheck.
