Two more urgent care centers are set to join the many already operating in the Capital Region.
St. Peter’s Health Partners will cut the ribbon Wednesday on its new facility in Saratoga Springs, and Albany Medical Center will cut the ribbon Thursday on its newest EmUrgentCare location, in Guilderland.
Urgent care clinics are designed to offer an option for quick treatment of minor ills and injuries that patients want to have treated without the expense of an emergency room visit. The centers have proliferated nationwide, as insurers, providers and patients seek to limit the high costs of medical care.
The Saratoga Springs clinic is the sixth to be opened by SPHP, which, with 12,500 employees at nearly 200 locations, is the region’s largest medical organization. The facility at 377 Church St. is staffed by doctors Jonathan Berg and Gloria Ethier and nurse practitioners Eileen Murphy and Rosann Wilcox. It began operation Aug. 13.
It stands a half-mile west of Saratoga Hospital on Route 9N. It is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The new clinic in Guilderland is the 11th EmUrgentCare for Albany Med. It is in Karner Corners Plaza at routes 20 and 155, in space formerly occupied by Juicy Burgers & More. The burger joint, which still has a location in Milton, abruptly closed its doors in February.
Starting Saturday, the new EmUrgentCare will be open for patients from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
