High schools: Shenendehowa field hockey tops Saratoga Springs

In a rematch of last year’s Section II Class A championship game, Shenendehowa field hockey picked up a 3-2 Suburban Council win Friday against Saratoga Springs.

Olivia Howard, Hannah Merritt and Lea Morlock scored for the Plainsmen, who fell to the Blue Streaks in the 2017 title game. Maddie Dunne and Rachel Sterle picked up assists for Shenendehowa, and Abby Danson made nine saves.

For Saratoga Springs, Lindsey Frank and Molly Russell each scored. Frank assisted Russell’s goal.

Shenendehowa led 2-1 at halftime.

Niskayuna won 2-1 against Shaker. Ava Schroeder and Annabelle Conover scored in the win, while Rachel Palladino had Shaker’s goal.

Bethlehem scored a pair of goals around halftime to win 2-1 against Guilderland. Ashley Gillies and Courtney Cea scored in the win. For Guilderland, Sophia Sericolo scored.

In the Adirondack-Wasaren League, Hoosick Falls topped Warrensburg 3-2. Lillian Hickey recorded each goal for Hoosick Falls, while Mikayla Rothermell and Abigail Ranous scored in defeat.


Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake won 25-18, 25-20, 25-10 against Guilderland in a Suburban Council match. Jake Baker had 16 kills for the Spartans, while Derek Haughey had 20 assists and Alex Hromada collected 11 digs. Max Blowers added eight kills in the win.

Shaker topped Saratoga Springs 25-22, 25-16, 25-15. In defeat, Garrett Myers recorded nine kills and Quinn Montgomery had 11 assists.

Bethlehem won 25-8, 25-10, 25-13 against Niskayuna. For the Silver Warriors, Angelo Hermno had 10 kills.


In a Suburban Council match, Burnt Hills recorded a 25-5, 25-19, 25-17 win against Albany. Claire Isaksen had 19 assists, while Carlie Rzeszotarski had eight kills and six aces for the Spartans.

Ballston Spa won 25-22, 25-17, 25-10 against Saratoga Springs. Anna Pilkey had eight kills, Samantha Russell had seven digs, Megan McMahon had 16 assists and Paige Davis had four aces in the win.

In Wasaren League action, Stillwater won 25-14, 25-13, 25-18 against Hoosic Valley. Chloe Farr led Stillwater with five aces, while Kyleigh Frank added four aces, three kills and four blocks. Emaleigh Peckham had five kills and five digs for Hoosic Valley.

Saratoga Central Catholic topped Mechanicville 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-25, 25-19. Elise Browell had 19 assists in the win, while Kennedy Murphy had 11 kills and Elaina Fiorimondo had four aces. In defeat, Taylor Grayson had 10 kills and Lyndsay Robens had six kills, while Kaitlin Coleman had nine assists and seven aces.

In the Foothills Council, Broadalbin-Perth won 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 against Scotia-Glenville. Sydney Rogers had six kills in the win, and Lilly Mitchell added 16 assists and five aces. Scotia’s Maddie Wright had 15 assists, and Maya Bellamy and Serena Sweet each had seven kills.

In non-league action, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons scored a 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 win against Catholic Central. ND-BG’s Anna Dobkowski had 18 assists and nine aces, while Abby Hamilton added six kills. Virginia Riva collected 11 digs, four aces and four kills in the win.

Mayfield won 16-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 against Queensbury. In the five-set win, Mikayla Myers had 20 kills and 24 digs, Emily Mormando had 40 assists, Amy Laubenstein had 31 digs and Samantha Kent had 15 kills. Queensbury’s Bailey Gergel had 50 assists, Isabella Salatino had 18 kills and Isabella Carasome collected 25 digs.


OESJ won 3-0 against Northville in Western Athletic Conference action. Jack Brundage scored twice and Mason Snell added a goal, while Zach Mosher had two assists.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons won 3-0 against Middleburgh. Connor Barber had two goals and an assist, while Wil Lawson added a goal.

Canajoharie and Galway tied 0-0. Jared Bentz had 16 saves for Canajoharie and Henry Flint had three for Galway.

Mayfield won 9-1 against Mekeel Christian Academy. Dylan Bumpus had three goals, while Britain Goodemote and Daniel Leach each added two scores for Mayfield. Lens Lima scored for Mekeel.

In the Wasaren League, Mechanicville won 6-0 against Hoosic Valley. Jeff Luce scored three goals, Marcus Tobin had four assists and Zach White had four saves in the shutout victory.


Canajoharie won 3-2 against Galway in the Western Athletic Conference. Kylee Richard, Alexz Lathers and Victoria Adams scored for Canajoharie, while Sarah Ernst and Rachel Wnuk each had a goal and an assist for Galway. Ruth Reichard had a dozen saves for Galway.

Fort Plain won 1-0 on a goal from Jenna Reese against Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
Duanesburg and Middleburgh tied 0-0. Madison Stealey had four saves for Duanesburg.

Mayfield won 5-3 against Mekeel Christian Academy. Lindsey Hampton had two goals and an assist for Mayfield, while Kelsey Meca, Taryn LaFontaine, and Emily Senese also scored. For Mekeel, Jo Galarneau scored each goal with two assists from Mia Biscossi and one from Jillian Ballard.

In non-league action, OESJ tied 1-1 against Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton. Magdelena Pellerito scored for OESJ on an assist from Alexis Klock.

Chatham and Hoosic Valley tied 3-3. Brooke-Lynn Doyle had two goals and Gabby Fisher had one for Chatham. Hoosic Valley’s Sam Lanoue, Sam Dickinson and Lauren Reed each scored, while Dickinson also added an assist.
