JOHNSTOWN — A call for a woman shooting up heroin in a car with two children inside last week led to the woman’s arrest, police said.

The children, both younger than 9, were not injured and were released to a family member, Police Chief David Gilbo said. Child Protective Services was also notified.

The incident happened on North Market Street on Sept. 6, police said in a press release this week. Officers found Bethany Roche, 27, of Gloversville, slumped against the driver’s window of the vehicle with the two children in the back seat, police said. Roche regained consciousness shortly after officers arrived, Gilbo said.

Officers found heroin and needles inside the car. Roche also had a suspended license, police said.

Roche was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.
