High school roundup: Shen tops Saratoga 1-0 in girls’ soccer

Shenendehowa scored a 1-0 win against rival Saratoga Springs in a Suburban Council girls’ soccer matchup on Thursday.
Lauren Cavert had the goal for the Plainsmen off an assist from Catherine Carley.

Troy edged Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 2-1. Olivia Hayes and Abby Burns each scored for Troy, while Burns added an assist. Cassidy Karl had the Spartans’ goal. 

Caitlin Wania scored a goal and had an assist for Ballston Spa in a 3-1 win over Columbia. Maddy Barnum and Lily Urban also scored for the Scotties. Sam Brook scored for Columbia. 

Bethlehem shut out Guilderland 2-0. Katie Hotaling scored first on an assist from Ruth Hotaling. Grace Hotaling scored the second goal on an assist from Claire Hutton. 

Niskayuna beat Colonie 5-1. Gabby Alston, Olivia Maltbie and Ally Ross all had a goal and an assist for the Silver Warriors. Mikayla Bechtel and Tyra O’Meally also scored. Madison Knowles scored for Colonie.

Tanya Leggiero recorded a hat trick for Scotia-Glenville in a 6-1 win over Broadalbin-Perth in Foothills Council action. Annika Nielson also contributed a goal and two assists for the Tartans. Brooke Bush had the goal for Broadalbin-Perth.

Abigail Dolge scored twice for Ichabod Crane in a 2-0 Colonial Council win over Cobleskill-Richmondville. Cali Ringwood had seven saves for the Riders. Emma Osterhoudt scored for the Bulldogs. 

Boys’ soccer

Erik Makhatadze scored all three goals for Shenendehowa in a 3-1 win over Saratoga Springs in a Suburban Council game. Evan Farr scored for the Blue Streaks.

CBA and Shaker played to a 3-3 tie. Keegan Vedder, Michael Puccioni and Eli D’Onofrio all scored for CBA. 

Albany won 5-0 against Averill Park. Marcello Fazio led Albany with a goal and two assists. Mohammed Yehia and Yan Nyein Thu both had a goal and an assist. 

Schuylerville beat Glens Falls 9-0 in a Foothills Council match. Nick Budesheim scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Horses. Zach Saddlemire added two goals, while Michael Lanfear scored once and had an assist. 

Ian Lewis won his 100th game as the head coach of Stillwater with a 3-0 Wasaren League win over Greenwich. Grant Baker scored twice and had an assist, and Issac Cutler scored once for Stillwater. Tim Buchal had eight saves in the shutout.

Jeff Luce led Mechanicville with three goals in an 8-0 win over Hoosick Falls. Chris Ciccarelli added two goals and two assists for the Red Raiders. Kevin Charette also scored once with an assist for Mechanicville. 

Mayfield shut out Canajoharie 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference action. Britain Goodemote and Garrett Delaney each had a goal for Mayfield. 

Middleburgh beat Galway 2-0 on Wednesday. Brent Hirsch and Eoin Delaney both scored for Middleburgh. 

Youseff Jalwaj-Soubai scored a goal and had an assist for Mohonasen in a 3-1 Colonial Council win over Voorheesville. Nathan Gandrow and Marcos Lopez also scored for Mohonasen. Derek Moore had a goal for Voorheesville. 

Girls’ volleyball

Molly Mason finished with 14 aces, 24 points and 12 digs in a 25-22, 25-12, 25-17 Niskayuna win over Colonie in the Suburban Council. Stefana Stan had nine kills for the Silver Warriors and Cat Schiavi contributed eight more. Julia Tenney had six kills, seven digs and three aces for the Garnet Raiders.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake improved to 9-0 with a 25-4, 25-8, 25-9 win over Troy. Carlie Rzeszotarski and Lindsey DeBonis led Burnt Hills with six kills each. 

Shenendehowa defeated Saratoga Springs 25-9, 25-20, 25-9. Ashley Lavigne finished with 10 service points, 16 assists and four kills for Shenendehowa while Olivia Bertoli added 10 kills and seven blocks. Abby Claeson and Riley Sterlin each had four kills for Saratoga. 

Anna Pikey had six blocks and 10 kills for Ballston Spa in a 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 win against Columbia. Meghan McMahon contributed 22 assists and five blocks for the Scotties. Emily Powell led Columbia with 10 kills and seven digs. 

Nicole McGrath finished with 10 kills for Guilderland in a 22-25, 25-8, 25-22, 25-13 win over Bethlehem. Amber Nunziato contributed six kills and four assists for Guilderland.

Averill Park beat Albany 25-12, 25-14, 25-16. Kelsey Wood had five aces and six kills for Averill Park, while Marissa Naegel added five aces and six kills.

Duanesburg swept Mekeel Christian Academy 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 in a Western Athletic Conference match. Annabelle Rieseler led Duanesburg with 10 service points, eight aces and seven kills.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons beat Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville 25-20, 25-22, 25-17. Alexis Bye had 18 service points, 19 assists and seven digs for Notre Dame. Abby Hamilton had six digs, four assists and four kills for Bishop Gibbons.

Emily Mormando had 13 assists and 12 service points for Mayfield in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 win over Berne-Knox-Westerlo. Mikayla Myers added eight kills, five digs and 14 service points for the Panthers. 

Galway beat Schoharie 25-19, 25-21, 25-15. Jacqui Gerstenberger paced Schoharie with 15 service points and six assists. 

Saratoga Central Catholic improved to 7-1 with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 Wasaren League victory over Mechanicville. Catherine Darcy had 20 service points and nine aces for Central Catholic, and Elise Browell finished with 11 assists and eight service points. Kaitlin Coleman contributed seven service points, six assists and three aces for the Red Raiders. 

Johnstown triumped 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 over Glens Falls in a Foothills Council game. Zoe Petrie had 20 digs and Macenzie Ward had 43 assists, four kills and four digs for Johnstown. Ella Kules led Glens Falls with 11 assists and six digs.

South Glens Falls won a close five-setter 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23 against Broadalbin-Perth. Haylee Scarincio had 43 digs, Grace Taylor had 18 kills and four blocks and Sadie Clough finished with 17 kills for South Glens Falls. Eliana Fraser led Broadalbin-Perth with 17 kills, 30 digs and 17 service points. Lily Mitchell also added 27 assists, 10 digs and 11 service points for Broadalbin-Perth.

Cobleskill-Richmondville defeated Catholic Central 25-17, 25-20, 25-10 in Colonial Council action. Maggie Hantho finished with nine kills while Grace Hadsell had 12 assists for Cobleskill.

Field hockey

Taryn Ringer had a hat trick for Johnstown in a 7-0 Foothills Council win over Schuylerville. Anna Lee scored twice and had an assist for Johnstown, while Maddie Etherton added a goal and an assist.

Scotia-Glenville shut out Glens Falls 3-0. Olivia Geniti, Zoe Connor and Sage Plemenik all scored for Scotia. Vicki Darling had two assists.
