High schools: Shenendehowa field hockey wins in OT

Rachel Sterle scored with 4:37 left in sudden-death overtime, leading Shenendehowa to a 2-1 victory over Guilderland in the Section II Class A field hockey tournament semifinals on Thursday.

Sterle assisted on Olivia Howard’s first-half goal. Sarah Williamstied it for Guilderland in the first half.

The top-seeded Plainsmen will take on second-seeded Saratoga Springs in the championship game Saturday at 6 p.m. at Gloversville.

The Blue Streaks defeated Niskayuna 5-1. Lindsey Frank had two goals and three assists for Saratoga Springs. Katelyn Ginley, Molly Russell and Hunter Yourch each scored a goal. Saratoga goalie Kristen Rodecker had five saves, and Niskayuna’s goalie LeBlanc had eight saves.

Niskayuna’s goal was scored by Sarah Williams.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
In the Section II Class AA tournament quarterfinals, Shenendehowa defeated Shaker 25-13, 25-12, 25-4. Shen’s Ashley Lavigne had 37 assists, three aces and 13 service points. Shaker’s Samantha Hardwick had eight digs and five kills. 

Niskayuna defeated Bethlehem 25-20, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13. Molly Mason had 29 digs and four aces for Niskayuna (14-3), while Katie Atchinson had 25 assists with four aces. Stefana Stan added 17 kills.

Ballston Spa defeated Saratoga Springs 25-11, 25-17, 25-12. Angelina Stile had 13 digs and six aces for Ballston Spa. Megan McMahon added 19 assists, five kills and two aces.

For Saratoga Springs, Marley Hawthrone had five digs and Abby Claeson had four digs. Ballston Spa plays Niskayuna Tuesday for the semifinals.

Columbia rallied to beat Guilderland 14-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23. Chesney Romer led Columbia with 20 kills and 11 digs. Julz Venduro had 19 kills for Guilderland.

In the Class A quarterfinals, Mohonasen defeated Averill Park 17-25, 25-19, 25-12, 14-25, 25-17. Averill Park’s Emma Crowley had 42 assists.

Queensbury defeated Gloversville 25-13, 25-14, 25-21. The Spartans were led by Bailey Gengel with 14 assists. Andraya Warner-Davis served five aces and had six digs, and Isabella Salatino had eight kills.

Gloversville’s Aireana Muhlberger had 17 assists, 11 digs and eight service points. Macey Salvione added 10 kills, four aces and 14 digs. 

In Class B, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk defeated Cobleskill-Richmondville 25-17, 25-23, 25-13 to advance to the semifinals. Maggie Hantho had eight kills for Cobleskill-Richmondville, and Samantha Marasciulo had 10 digs.

FOOTBALL
In crossover action, Niskayuna defeated Ballston Spa 21-20.

Derek Meisner scored two touchdowns for the Silver Warriors, and Aaron Whitley caught a touchdown pass. Niskayuna’s defense recorded six sacks of Ballston Spa quarterback Keegan Zollar. 

Colonie defeated Scotia-Glenville 41-12.

Colonie’s Shai Young had 126 passing yards, 111 rushing yards and figured in three touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes to Josiah Kemp and Eddie Soto. Young had a rushing touchdown.

Bryan Grimes, Donald Francis and James Rossi each had a rushing touchdown for Colonie.

Scotia’s Ryan Rockwell scored a touchdown and had 78 passing yards.
