SCHENECTADY — A popular neighborhood bakery and a restaurant that battled back from a fire are getting ready to close their doors.

  • Napoli Bakery at 2309 Guilderland Ave. has baked its last loaf of bread but will be selling groceries, deli items cookies and pastries through Friday. In an Oct. 18 Facebook post, the owners thanked its customers for 30 years of patronage but said they’re ready for retirement. The post drew scores of supportive comments.
  • The owner of Bel Cibo Bistro at 94 Jay St. said on Facebook earlier this month that it would be closing on Nov. 18. She said business had slowed down so significantly that it was financially untenable. She thanked patrons and received dozens of supportive comments. Bel Cibo was closed for most of 2015 after a massive, deadly fire swept 96 Jay St., where Bel Cibo had been in operation just four days.
  • Meanwhile, Stewart’s Shops on Monday announced it is shutting down two stores on Sunday: Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam and Morton Avenue in Albany. The company said rising wages, insurance costs and regulatory mandates were too much to counter with the low volume of business at both stores. The company added that neither store has the floor space necessary to install the food-to-go offerings that have become an increasingly important stream of revenue.
