ROTTERDAM — A Rotterdam resident was the victim of a distraction burglary over the weekend, and police are warning residents to be on the lookout for the thieves.
The incident happened Saturday on Putnam Road, when two men in a green pickup truck attempted to sell a resident unsolicited driveway repairs, police said.
The suspects put down some patching asphalt on the homeowner’s driveway without the owner’s permission, then called the owner outside to show the repairs they could do, police said. While the resident was talking with one suspect, the other went into the home and stole money, police said.
The suspects are described as a white man with missing teeth and a large-stature black man, police said.
“Residents are advised to be cautious of anyone approaching your residence in this manner and to contact police immediately with any suspicions,” police said in a prepared statement.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Rotterdam Police at 518-355-7397.
The report from Rotterdam follows a similar report from Colonie two days earlier. Colonie police reported on their Facebook page three separate distraction burglary attempts there, two in the village of Colonie and one in Latham.
All three residents in Colonie said a newer white SUV with out-of-state plates was involved in the burglary attempts there.
Colonie police asked anyone with information about those incidents to contact them at 518-783-2754.
